Physical and Chemical Properties

Coal tar is a thick dark liquid which is a by-product of the production of coke and coal gas from coal. It is a type of creosote. It has both medical and industrial uses.

 

Application

  8. As a main component of the electrode pasteused in electric arc furnaces. Coal tar pitch act as the binder for solid filler that can be either coke or calcined anthracite, forming electrode paste, also widely known as Söderberg electrode paste.
  9. As a feed stock for higher-value fractions, such as naphtha, creosoteand pitch.
